Data Base

Your accounts data base is a set of tables for each year, each set of tables being designated eg 2000.acs, 2001.acs etc.

The tables within each set has a 2 character suffix as the year identifier. You use the File|Open Accounts set... facility to select the year you want to work with.

If you have three years worth of data, then the system will show you eg:

1999.acs

2000.acs

2001.acs

Double click on any of these and the system will load that year for you.

If you want to create a new year, just use the File|Create new account year... The system will then set up the new year with the same account structure but with no account items. It will then pick up all necessary information from the previous year and you can carry on working in the new year.

A word of warning - data records occasionally get corrupted, usually due to power failure, rare but possible disk problems or occasional corruption by other processes. MoneyBox has an easy Backup function. For your peace of mind I do suggest you use it at least once a week.

Very occasionally you may find that you have apparently lost part an item you have just entered. This is caused by a Windows failure to write an updated item to disk at the time you created it. Although annoying, don't worry. Windows ultimately gets around to writing the item to disk, and it will reappear next time you start MoneyBox.

I suggest you Browse >> forward to read about Backup / Restore.

If you would like a wider understanding of data files, you should read the Multiple Account Sets topic.
